Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 1/2-inch thickness
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying, about 1-2 cups depending on pan size

For the Caesar dressing:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For assembly:

  • 4 sandwich buns, such as brioche, ciabatta, or your choice
  • 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1/4 cup shaved Parmesan cheese
  • Optional toppings: crispy bacon, sliced tomatoes, or avocado slices

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken: Begin by pounding the boneless chicken breasts to an even 1/2-inch thickness. This ensures uniform cooking. Season the flour with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika in a shallow dish.
  • Breading Station: Set up a breading station with three bowls: flour mixture, beaten eggs, and a mix of panko breadcrumbs and grated parmesan. Dip each chicken breast into the flour first, ensuring it’s coated evenly, then into the beaten eggs for a sticky surface, and finally press into the panko mixture, ensuring every inch is covered.
  • Frying the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high until it shimmers. Fry the chicken in batches for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer onto a cooling rack set over paper towels to keep them crispy.
  • Make the Caesar Dressing: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, grated parmesan, fresh lemon juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Blend until smooth and creamy, balancing flavors to your preference.
  • Assemble the Sandwich: Lightly toast your choice of sandwich buns. Spread a generous layer of Caesar dressing on the bottom half of each bun. Place a crispy chicken cutlet on top, followed by chopped romaine lettuce and shaved parmesan cheese.
  • Add Fillings: To amplify complexity, you can add optional toppings such as crispy bacon, sliced tomatoes, or avocado slices.
  • Complete and Serve: Top with the other half of the bun and enjoy the delicious interplay of textures and flavors. The crispy exterior contrasting with the cool, creamy Caesar salad makes this sandwich irresistible.
