This lasagna transforms ordinary ingredients into pure decadence — layered with savory beef, crispy bacon crumbles, and three melted cheeses that stretch gloriously with every forkful.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked beef bacon, crumbled
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles for 2 minutes less than package directions (they’ll finish cooking in the oven), drain, and lay them flat on a lightly oiled baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30-60 seconds until fragrant but not browned – I find this brief cooking releases the garlic flavor without any bitterness.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the crumbled bacon, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, reserving the rest for layering and topping.
  5. Spread 1/2 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 4 lasagna noodles, overlapping slightly, then spread half the ricotta mixture on top. Add 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with 1/3 of the mozzarella.
  6. Repeat with another layer of noodles, remaining ricotta, half the remaining meat sauce, and half the remaining mozzarella. Top with final noodle layer, remaining sauce, mozzarella, and the rest of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover the dish with foil (tent it slightly so it doesn’t touch the cheese) and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15-20 more minutes until the top is golden and bubbly. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving – trust me, this waiting period makes all the difference for perfect slices.
  8. Serve with garlic bread and a fresh green salad for the ultimate comfort meal experience.

Notes

  • Noodle Prep Matters: Slightly undercook your lasagna noodles by 2 minutes and cool them on an oiled surface—this prevents them from turning mushy during baking while absorbing all those delicious meat sauce flavors.
  • Bacon Technique: Cook your beef bacon until just crisp before adding to the sauce—I’ve found that slightly undercooked bacon provides better texture in the final lasagna as it continues cooking in the oven.
  • Cheese Temperature Secret: Let your ricotta and mozzarella come to room temperature before assembling—this helps them spread more evenly and melt more consistently throughout the layers.
  • Prevent Cheese Stick: When covering with foil, spray the underside with cooking spray or create a foil tent—this prevents the melted cheese from sticking and tearing away that perfect golden top layer.
  • Rest Before Slicing: The 15-minute rest after baking isn’t just a suggestion—it’s essential for the lasagna to set properly, allowing you to cut those picture-perfect slices without the layers sliding apart.
