Plump, succulent shrimp bathed in a glossy sauce that strikes the perfect balance between sweet honey, aromatic garlic, and fiery chili heat. This Spicy Honey-Garlic Shrimp Stir-Fry transforms simple ingredients into a restaurant-quality meal in just minutes. The vibrant broccoli florets and colorful bell peppers maintain their satisfying crunch while soaking up the irresistible sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1–2 tsp chili flakes or chili paste (adjust heat)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tsp water (slurry)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by whisking together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and chili flakes in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry and set both aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until shimmering. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 3 minutes until bright green but still crisp.
  3. Add the sliced bell peppers and onions to the pan, continuing to stir-fry for another 2 minutes.
  4. Transfer the vegetables to a plate and return the wok to high heat. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper, then add to the hot pan in a single layer. Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
  5. Return the vegetables to the pan with the shrimp and toss everything together. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir to coat all ingredients evenly.
  6. Stir the cornstarch slurry again and pour it into the pan. Cook for 30-60 seconds until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Remove from heat immediately once the sauce reaches your desired thickness.
  8. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles, garnishing with sesame seeds or sliced green onions for an extra touch of flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • Pat shrimp dry: Blotting excess moisture with paper towels before seasoning allows the shrimp to sear rather than steam.
  • Prep everything first: Have all ingredients measured, chopped, and ready before heating your wok.
  • Manage your heat: Start with a screaming hot wok for vegetables, but slightly reduce heat when cooking shrimp.
  • Double the sauce: If you love extra sauce for your rice, simply double the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and aromatics.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Cook in batches if needed – crowded ingredients steam rather than stir-fry.
  • Watch the cornstarch magic: The moment you add the slurry, stir constantly and watch carefully.
